AUH has been transformed into a cross-disciplinary university, with a characteristic of agronomy and forestry, covering the 8 fields of agriculture, industry, management, economics, law , literature, arts and iatrology . Altogether there are 24 colleges in the university.

The research work has reaped a bumper harvest. For example, of the 449 projects which passed the evaluations since the period of 8th five-year plan, 224 have reached international level; 276 have won awards of ministerial and provincial level or above.

In technical extension, the practice of integrating teaching & research with agro-production,is known nationwide as Taihang Mt. Road.
